THE POLYETHYLENE ENCASEMENT STORY
Polyethylene encasement simply means wrapping ductile iron pipe with a tube or sheet of polyethylene immediately before installing the pipe. For more than 40 years, this method has proven to be an effective way of protecting ductile iron pipe from corrosive elements. Due to the success of this method, the first national ANSI/AWWA standard was adopted in 1972. The current standard is C105/A21.5-10.
Following are photos showing the positive effects of polyethylene encasement many years after installation. All photos are presented with the authorization of DIPRA.
